Purpose for the Walk

Raise funds to purchase kitchen equipment for the new homeless shelter currently under construction
Raise awareness of the harsh conditions that homeless and desperate needy people must endure to survive
Raise awareness of the Mission's New Life Center..it's purpose and intended benefits

This year, funds raised will be used to purchase kitchen equipment for the new Mission facility currently under construction and slated to complete in spring 2008. The new facility will require an estimated $100,000 in kitchen equipment. Different groups/organizations and individuals have already generously donated funds and items towards the need, however, additional funds are still required.

Generally, funds raised are designated to the general operating budget to reach out to the homeless and desperately poor people in our community by addressing their physical and spiritual needs through food, shelter, Christian counseling and hope for recovery. Of course, all of these services continue even though the funds raised this year are designated to the new facility needs.

The walk helps raise awareness of the harsh conditions that homeless and desperate people endure daily just to live. Remember how challenging it was the last time you had to scrape ice from your car windows, how cold the wind was and how nice it was to finally get enough heat blowing to warm you up! Imagine being exposed to the elements without having a vehicle to warm up or walking to a doctor's office because you're sick. Hard to imagine...but true for so many people right here in our community.

In addition, the walk ends at the Mission's New Life Center, a recycling and training center. Walk participants will be given short tours of the center to raise awareness. The center has many functions, a few being: training for residents with special attention paid to social skills, accountability and self-worth. Additionally, through collection of donated items, funds are generated to assist the general operating budget.

We can't promise yet, but limited tours of the new facility may be available.
