Meijer’s “Simply Give Food” to fight hunger to benefit Muncie Mission

August 1, 2012 – Meijer is launching their 13th “Simply Give Food Pantry” drive to fight against hunger campaign.  They have chosen to partner with Muncie Mission again for this campaign.

The past “Simply Give” campaigns have raised an incredible $3 million worth of food donations that have helped nearly 200 food pantries cope with the increasing demand for their services.

To participate in the “Simply Give” to fight against hunger campaign, simply pick up a $10 Meijer food pantry donation card located at the checkout areas, present it to the casher and it will be added to your total.  The $10 amount reflects a typical bag of groceries at Meijer.

The campaign runs August 5th-October 6th, 2012.  At the conclusion of the campaign all funds received at the local Meijer store will be converted into gift cards and donated to Muncie Mission to help restock their food supplies.  In addition to the donations received from Meijer customers, the Meijer family has pledged up to $1 million dollars this year to distribute among the many food pantries in their region.

“We are very pleased to have been chosen by the Muncie Meijer store as their food pantry choice, said Ray Raines, Executive Director, Muncie Mission.  “Currently food donations are down 4,500 lbs. from last year, yet we are serving thousands more meals and distributing hundreds more food bags in the first half of the year”.

We congratulate Meijer at the corporate level and the local level for their continued efforts to partner with the food pantries in the regions where they have stores.  The Meijer family continues to prove that it’s not all about selling product… it’s about assisting those in need as well.
